Elon Musk's AI company plans hiring ‘thousands’ for these posts

Elon Musk-owned Ai company, xAI, is reportedly planning a significant expansion of its workforce this year, aiming to hire thousands of individuals to train its Grok chatbot. This move comes as xAI seeks to gain a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, where it faces stiff competition from established giants like OpenAI, Meta, and Google.
Citing conversation with three xAI employees, Business Insider reported that xAI currently has five open job listings for data annotation roles and is seeking bilingual workers as well as specialists in legal and STEM fields.
Citing internal Slack data, the company already employs over 900 data annotators, referred to as “AI tutors.” Sources indicate that hundreds of these tutors were brought on board in anticipation of the November presidential election.

What is the job of xAI tutor

Data annotators, or xAI tutors as they are called, are essential to the development of large language models as they label, categorise, and contextualise raw data to train chatbots like Grok to understand and interact with the world.
“Sometimes projects take months; sometimes it’s only a few days and then you’re getting a message from a team lead moving you to a new project. Sometimes it’s a drop-everything situation,” one worker explained.
xAI’s tutors work under six-month contracts as full-time hourly employees, according to job postings and worker conversations.

Elon Musk’s job offer for software engineers

Last month, Musk announced a job offer to software engineers worldwide for creating the “everything app.” In a post on X, Musk encouraged ‘hardcore software engineers’ engineers to send their best work to code@x.com, emphasizing that traditional credentials or past affiliations don’t matter-what matters is the quality of their code.
Recently, Musk’s Tesla listed a hiring alert for several manufacturing roles for the mass production of its Optimus humanoid robot, also known as the Tesla Bot. A job listing was reposted by Musk.
