Tech billionaire Elon Musk took to social media on Wednesday to criticise UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the country’s handling of grooming gangs, using a meme to mock the PM’s apparent refusal to take action.
The meme, which has since gone viral, features Starmer seemingly denying the need for a rape gang inquiry. It highlights the ongoing issue of Pakistani grooming gangs in the UK, who have been responsible for numerous sexual assaults on women, with many families receiving little to no justice.
Musk, who has recently become vocal about UK politics, has condemned the failure of the government to address these groups effectively. In the post, he directly calls out the UK’s apparent focus on arresting people for sharing memes, rather than taking action against the actual perpetrators. He wrote, “Just posting a meme like this could get you sent to prison in Britain (actually),” mocking what he sees as the government’s misplaced priorities.
In another jab at the UK’s handling of the issue, Musk responded to a Simpsons-themed meme, which depicts the government turning a blind eye to victims while cracking down on people posting memes instead. He replied, “Evel Knievel’s most dangerous stunt in 2025 would be going to Britain & posting memes,” referring to the legendary American stuntman and suggesting that sharing memes in the UK could carry similar risks to performing life-threatening stunts.
Musk has repeatedly called for the resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, along with that of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. His involvement in UK politics has sparked significant backlash, particularly following the release of jailed political activist Tommy Robinson. UK leaders have urged Musk to stay out of their political affairs, with many arguing that he is “misinformed” about the issues occurring in the UK. However, Musk continues to actively use his own platform, X, to criticise the UK government and its actions.
