Elon Musk has publicly stated he is not interested in acquiring TikTok, the popular video-sharing app owned by ByteDance. During a virtual interview at the WELT Economic Summit on January 28, Musk emphasized his preference for building companies from scratch, noting, “I usually build companies from scratch.” He further clarified, “I have not put in a bid for TikTok. I don’t have any plans for what I would do if I had TikTok.”
Musk’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about TikTok’s future in the United States. President Donald Trump has expressed openness to the idea of Musk acquiring the app, suggesting it as a potential solution to national security concerns. However, Musk has reiterated his lack of interest in such an acquisition.
In the interview, Musk also mentioned that he does not use TikTok personally and is not familiar with the platform. He described his acquisition of Twitter (now X) as an anomaly in his career, stating, “I usually build companies from scratch.”
These developments highlight the complexities surrounding TikTok’s operations in the U.S. and the potential involvement of high-profile figures like Musk in its future.
