Elon Musk sent a team to Las Vegas after the Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel to help investigators extract data and video from the charred remains of the car. Elon Musk also made sure that footage from Tesla’s charging station that trackers Colorado’s Matthew Livelsberger reached the investigators. As Las Vegas sheriff Kevin McMahill praised Musk for his assistance in the case which was initially thought to be a terror attack, it is not yet known whether Musk voluntarily helped the investigation or if the law enforcement reached out to him.
Washington Post quoted personal injury and wrongful death attorney Brett Schreiber who claimed that Tesla is not known to be forthcoming in sharing its data. Another attorney Don Slavik said Tesla collects data on its vehicles’ movements down to the millisecond but it is very difficult to get data from Tesla. “And when they do share it they only share what they want to share.”
Both Trump and Musk dragged in Livelsberger’s explosion
37-year-old military member Matthew Livelsberger knowingly or unknowingly dragged both Donald Trump and Elon Musk to the explosion that followed his suicide on New Year’s Day. Livelsberger rented a Tesla Cybertruck and chose to explode it in front of the Trump International Hotel. Before the explosion, he shot himself in the head.
This connection was the most crucial factor that the investigators looked into though as the investigation progresses, the bomber’s motivation looks like a personal crisis and probably had nothing to do with either Trump or Musk.
After the explosion, Elon Musk said the “evil knuckleheads” picked the wrong car for a “terrorist attack” and condemned media for calling it a Cybertruck explosion meaning that the car exploded on its own. In a later update, he said the battery pack never caught fire and the tires were still inflated. “Once we get this Cybertruck back to Tesla, we’ll buff out the scratches and get it back on the road,” he posted.
The exterior of the vehicle remained largely intact and no one else apart from the bomber who shot himself in the head died. Even the glass doors of the Trump Tower remained intact but that could also be attributed to the low-grade explosives consisting of fireworks, gas canisters etc.
Livelsberg’s fascination for Cybertruck
From the text messages that Livelsberg exchanged with his ex-girlfriend days before he killed himself and blew up the truck, it appears that he was quite in awe of the Cybertruck. “I rented a Tesla Cybertruck. It’s the s**t,” he wrote. “I feel like Batman or halo,” he wrote about his experience driving the Cybertruck.
