PATNA: A 65-year-old woman, who owns a betel shop, was allegedly gang-raped by four men who came to her house asking for cigarettes past midnight in Lakhisarai district on Wednesday.
The four accused, who were drunk, went to the woman’s house asking for cigarettes. When the woman refused, they broke into her house and dragged her to a nearby field where they allegedly committed the heinous crime. The victim’s family members reported the incident to the police, who immediately swung into action and arrested two of the accused on Thursday morning. However, the two others are still absconding, police said.
According to Lakhisarai SP, Ajay Kumar, the family reported that around 1am on Wednesday night, four miscreants came to the house asking for cigarettes. When refused, they started banging on the door. As the miscreants continued the banging on the door, the elderly woman’s daughter-in-law and husband escaped through the back gate. However, unable due to her age, she stayed back.
“Shortly after, around 1.30 am, the miscreants jumped over the wall into the courtyard. They broke the door, forcibly took the elderly woman to a field, where they committed the crime. The victim has been admitted to the sadar hospital for treatment,” he said.
The elderly woman screamed for help when she was being dragged to the field, but no one came to her rescue. The family of the victim alleged that the miscreants also looted some cash kept inside the house. Another son of the woman, who was living in a house some distance away, informed the Dial-112 team about the incident around 3am.
The SP said, “Two persons have been caught, while raids are being carried out to nab the other two. All the accused are from the same village. This is a very serious and disturbing incident. We will do everything possible to ensure that the accused get severe punishment.”
