Drunk cop tries to rape colleague inside thana in Mathura, arrested

AGRA: A sub-inspector (SI) in UP Police was arrested on Friday for allegedly attempting to rape a female colleague inside a local police station in Mathura district. The 27-year-old woman SI, a Dalit, was resting in her room in the thana in the early hours of Thursday when the 39-year-old cop, in an inebriated state, forced his way into the place, police said.
DSP Mathura Alok Kumar Singh said, “The incident took place between 12.30am and 3am. The accused first knocked on the door and then forced his way inside when she opened it. He also attempted to sexually assault her. Hearing her screams, others in the thana rushed into the room and took him into custody.”
A case has been registered against the accused SI under BNS sections 64 (2) (rape) and the SC/ST Act, the DSP said. “The charges levelled against the SI were found to be prima facie true. The cop has been arrested and sent to jail,” Singh added.
The accused also showed some sexually explicit content to the woman SI and tried to destroy the evidence by discarding his mobile phone while attempting to flee from the room, police sources further said.
Mathura SSP, Shailesh Kumar Pandey, meanwhile, said that “departmental proceedings have been initiated against the SI and he will be soon terminated from service”.
