NEW DELHI: In a moment to remember for a lifetime, Beau Webster on Friday made his Test debut for Australia against India in the fifth and final Test in Sydney.
The sudden call-up for Webster ahead of the Pink Test left him and his family in smiles and tears of joy.
However, amid the joy over their son’s international call-up, the Webster family was left to scramble for a dog sitter.
With their son set to make his debut, the Webster family had to be in Sydney and a friend of Tina and Rod Webster made an adorable request on social media for a dog sitter on their behalf that instantly went viral on social media.
“Unlikely but is anyone available for some house sitting starting tonight, for 4-5 nights?’ the post read. Until at least Tuesday next week, possible a few more days after that. Would be looking after 2 dogs based in Mount Nelson. A friend’s son has been selected for the Australian cricket side!! So she’s off to Sydney at very short notice,” the request on Facebook read.
After the close of play on Day 1, Webster shed the light on the funny incident as their parents managed to rush to Sydney in time for his debut game.
“Mum and dad have obviously flown up pretty quickly and I have left my dog Franklin with them. And they have got a Labrador as well. And so they needed another dog sitter, obviously pretty quickly so they’ve put it on. Well, one for her friends has put it on Facebook and asked if there’s any dog sitters in the Hobart area and underneath it. It said ‘her son has just been picked to play for Australia’. I think a couple of local journos picked it up pretty quickly and then it went viral. I read it last night and thought,” said Webster.

The 31-year-old was called in just 24 hours before the final Test as he replaced and out of form Mitchell Marsh in the playing XI.
On the opening day of the Sydney Test, Webster bowled 13 overs but couldn’t manage a wicket for his side.
However, Australia still managed to knock out India for 185 and were 9 for one at the close of play.
