NEW DELHI: A video of Madhya Pradesh deputy inspector general of police Savita Sohane advising teenage students on how to conceive “ojaswi” (bright) babies, including avoiding conception on a full moon night, has gone viral.
The Shahdol DIG delivered this lecture on October 4 to Class 10-12 students at a private school as part of a state government initiative promoting girl child safety.
In the video, Sohane, who is unmarried, is heard saying, “You will bring forth a new generation on Earth. How are you going to plan for it? Note this: do not conceive on Purnima (full moon). Bow before the Sun and offer water to bring forth ‘ojaswi’ offspring.”
DIG provides clarification
When approached for a comment, Sohane told PTI that her advice was inspired by her interest in scriptures and spiritual discourses. She stated that her remarks were part of the “Mai Hoon Abhimanyu” program, which aims to create awareness about the safety and dignity of the girl child.
She emphasised that her intent was to foster respect for girls amid rising crimes against women and that the viral clip lacked context.
Sohane, who was a lecturer before joining the police service 31 years ago, explained that her statements were drawn from spiritual teachings and her quest for inner peace. She added that the full moon is regarded as a holy period in Hinduism.
