NEW DELHI: A woman’s charred body was found in a bag that was set on fire in east Delhi’s Ghazipur area on Sunday. Delhi Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case and launched an investigation, suspecting it to be a murder.
According to police, the bag was likely thrown from a vehicle near the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border around midnight. The murder took place somewhere else, it suggests.
The police received information about the incident around 4.10 am on Sunday and immediately rushed to the spot. Upon arrival, the cops found a woman’s charred body in the bag. However, no documents or identification were found on the body, making it difficult for the police to establish the victim’s identity.
“We are investigating the case and trying to identify the victim,” said a police officer probing the case. “We have obtained some CCTV footage, which suggests that the car from which the bag was thrown came from the Kondli side. It appears that the woman was murdered elsewhere and her body was dumped in Gazipur,” the police officer added.
A case has been registered under various sections, including murder and destruction of evidence, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. The investigation is ongoing. The police have urged anyone with information about any woman missing from the area to come forward and help with the investigation.
