Delhi man beaten to death by two brothers for protesting against loud music on New Year's Eve

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old man was beaten to death by his neighbours following a dispute over loud music during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Rohini. The man, Dharmender, lived with his family in Rohini and worked as a salesman. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Jan 1.
Police received information regarding a quarrel between two groups around 1 am. A team from the South Rohini police station reached the spot and launched an investigation.
DCP (Rohini) Amit Goel said that Dharmender was allegedly attacked by two brothers during a fight after he and his family members opposed the loud music being played by the duo. He was rushed to BSA Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The two accused, Piyush Tiwari (21) and Kapil Tiwari (26), have been arrested.
Dharmender’s family members claimed that the attack was brutal and he succumbed to his injuries. Dinesh (42), his elder brother, said that Dharmender was killed in front of their eyes over a trivial matter. “My brother’s fate was sealed in a matter of minutes.”
“The loud music kept our family awake, so I went downstairs to investigate. My brother followed, thinking he was protecting me. But the situation escalated rapidly. They dragged me to a corner, and one of them brutally assaulted my brother with a stick. His wife and children tried to intervene, but they were powerless to stop the attack. He was left bleeding and battered,” Dinesh recalled.
Dinesh’s voice cracked as he spoke about the impact on their family. “He just landed a job as a salesman after months of unemployment. We were all celebrating the new year with renewed hope. His anniversary was just around the corner in Feb. How do I explain his absence to his three young children? He was supposed to enrol his daughter in school this Jan, but now, who will support the family?” he asked.
The family alleges that more people were involved in the assault, a claim that police are currently investigating. A case has been registered under different sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Piyush works as an online delivery agent while his elder brother, Kapil, is pursuing a master’s degree and also works as an expense head in a company in Mangolpuri.
Police are conducting further investigations to determine if there were any previous disputes between the parties involved.
