NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Sunday has sanctioned complete educational qualification waivers and age limit extensions up to 55 years for 88 employment applications from 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims. These concessions have been granted for their recruitment as multi tasking staff (MTS) in government service.
The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, along with public representatives and victim groups, had submitted multiple petitions to the LG regarding this matter during recent meetings.
The ministry of home affairs implemented a Rehabilitation Package on January 16, 2006, which included employment provisions for the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims. Through a special initiative, the Revenue Department collected 72 applications, with 22 candidates securing positions after receiving age relaxation from the previous LG.
In October 2024, Saxena granted complete educational qualification waivers for MTS positions to the remaining 50 applicants from the original 72 submissions. The Revenue Department received instructions to process employment cases for the children of applicants who exceeded the employment age limit.
Following these directives, the Revenue Department conducted special camps from November 28, 2024 to November 30, 2024, and published notices in prominent newspapers seeking applications from 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims’ family members. They received 199 applications, with 89 candidates qualifying, though all exceeded the age requirement and some lacked necessary educational qualifications.
The LG’s approval for these relaxations will remove barriers for 88 applicants seeking MTS positions in Government Service.
In his approval, Saxena specifically addressed the suffering of 1984 Sikh Riot victims, stating it damaged Indian democratic values through severe violations of human rights against a minority community, affecting numerous families by claiming their primary income earners.
