JAMMU: A 55yr-old CRPF assistant sub-inspector allegedly shot himself dead using his service weapon in Katra in J&K’s Reasi district Tuesday morning.
Rajnath Prasad, a native of Bihar’s Patna, took the drastic step inside a makeshift CRPF picket along the Tarakote route leading to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
“On hearing a gunshot, ASI Prasad’s colleagues rushed to the spot to find him lying in a pool of blood with a bullet wound to his chest at his place of posting along Tarakote Marg near a langar (community kitchen) beside the picket of CRPF’s 6Bn,” an official said.
“Prasad was taken to Katra Community Health Centre where he was declared dead. His body was shifted to a hospital morgue for medico-legal proceedings,” the official added.
Police registered a case to determine the exact cause behind the suicide.
