BHOPAL: Six days after a 27-year-old man died by suicide while live on social media, police have arrested his wife and mother-in-law for abetment to suicide in Rewa district.
The incident took place on March 16 in Mehra village. The deceased, Shivprakash Tiwari, was found hanging at his home while live-streaming his final moments. In the video, he accused his mother-in-law and her daughters of destroying his home.
During investigations, Sirmour police discovered that among those who watched the live video was an account linked to his 24-year-old wife Priya Tripathi. However, when questioned, she claimed she saw the video only after her husband had taken the step.
A case of unnatural death was registered. On Friday, police arrested the mother-in-law of the deceased, Geeta Dubey, 60, and Priya on charges of abetment to suicide.
“The deceased used to work as a priest in Wardha district of Gujarat. He returned home around six months ago, as he met with an accident injuring his leg. Since then, he had been staying at home. Married around a couple of years ago, the couple had a six-month-old child,” JP Patel, Sirmour police station in charge, told TOI.
There were frequent disputes between husband and wife. The wife was staying at her mother’s place as of now. On March 16, the accused also went to his in-laws’ place to bring back his wife. There was some dispute there, and she did not return with him. He returned home and took the extreme step, he added.
