PATNA: A police constable, posted as security of RJD neta Tej Pratap Yadav, was taken off duty and sent to police lines on Sunday for dancing in uniform during Holi celebrations at the former Bihar minister’s residence, said an official statement issued by Patna SSP‘s office. Another constable has been given asked to replace him, reports Faryal Rumi.
Tej Pratap found himself at the centre of a controversy on Saturday when he allegedly instructed the constable to perform a “thumka (dance move)” or face suspension. In a video that went viral on social media, the elder son of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi can be seen asking the constable to dance. Later, Tej Pratap also drove a scooter on the streets shouting “Happy Holi, Paltu Chacha”, evidently a jibe at CM Nitish Kumar, who, at least on two occasions, left the RJD-led grand alliance to be a part of NDA.
Patna traffic police on Sunday slapped a fine of Rs 4,000 on Tej Pratap for riding the scooter without a helmet, with expired insurance and pollution certificates, and for violating the speed limit.
BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla posted on social media: “This is why they need to be kept out of power! Imagine if this is what they do (when) out of power – what they will do (if they come back) in power (sic).”
