GUWAHATI: A team of Assam Police served a summons to stand-up comedian Jaspreet Singh in Gurugram on Sunday. He was one of the judges on the online show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
Ankur Jain, the joint commissioner of police, said, “Summonses were served to Apoorva Mukhija in Mumbai on Saturday and Singh in Gurugram on Sunday.”
The team, which went to Mumbai on Wednesday, served summonses to Ashish Chanchlani, Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina on Thursday. All five of them were part of the jury on the online show.
Public outrage intensified after Allahbadia made a highly controversial and obscene remark regarding the relationship between children and their parents. His statement, widely condemned as inappropriate and offensive, sparked a wave of backlash from various sections of society, with many calling for accountability and demanding an apology.
Meanwhile, Allahbadia issued another formal apology on his social media, stating that he would fully cooperate with the police during the investigation and expressed remorse for his actions. He also voiced his concerns about the escalating situation, revealing that he and his family were receiving death threats.
“My team and I are cooperating with the police and all the other authorities. I will follow due process and be available to all agencies…I am watching death threats pour in from people, saying that they want to hurt me and kill my family. People have invaded my mother’s clinic posing as patients. I am feeling scared and I don’t know what to do. But I am not running away. I have full faith in the police and the judicial system,” Allahbadia said. On Monday, Guwahati crime branch had registered an FIR, based on a complaint filed by one Alok Baruah, against these YouTubers for their alleged obscene remarks.
