ChatGPT maker OpenAI CEO Sam Altman makes 'desperate' job offer

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is hiring. The company’s CEO Sam Altman shared a Twitter post announcing job offers with “very hard/interesting challenges”. “If you are interested in infrastructure and very large-scale computing systems….please consider joining us! we could desperately use your help,” Altman wrote in the post.

In another post, he further stated: “in particular, if you have thought about how to squeeze max performance out of a system, we’d love to talk to you.”
“And if you have a background in compiler design or programming language design, we might have something great for you,” he added.

Sam Altman’s advice to students

In an interview with Stratechery’s Ben Thompson last month, Altman said that students should master AI tools for future job markets. For students preparing for careers, he recommended focusing on adaptability and the ability to learn rather than specific technical skills.
“Whatever specific thing you’re going to learn, like learn these general skills that seem like they’re going to be important as the world goes through this transition,” he said.
In the interview, Altman stated that AI already handles a substantial portion of coding. “I think in many companies, it’s probably past 50% now,” Altman said in the interview. “But the big thing I think will come with agentic coding, which no one’s doing for real yet.”
When asked about barriers to agentic coding, Altman responded, “Oh, we just need a little longer,” adding that the issue was related to AI models rather than product development.
