OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently hinted at launching an improved version of ChatGPT image generator after the viral Ghibli-style AI art trend. In a post on X, Altman stated, “y’all are not ready for images v2…” , suggesting that the upcoming version will introduce notable improvements. While the exact details and a release date for “images v2” is not known yet, Altman’s teaser indicates that OpenAI is preparing to unveil substantial enhancements to ChatGPT’s image-generation features.
Hours later the CEO’s post, OpenAI’s chief scientist – Lu Liu made a sleep request to Altman. In a post on X, Liu wrote “we need sleep” followed by a melting face emoji.
When Sam Altman said his ‘team needs sleep’
The current image-generation feature in ChatGPT has gained widespread attention, particularly for its ability to produce visuals reminiscent of Studio Ghibli‘s animation style. This surge in user engagement led to unprecedented demand, with Altman noting that the platform added one million users in a single hour. However, this rapid increase strained OpenAI’s GPU resources, prompting the temporary introduction of rate limits to manage capacity challenges.
In response to the overwhelming usage, Altman appealed to users to moderate their activity, humorously remarking that the team needed rest. He then wrote “can y’all please chill on generating images this is insane our team needs sleep”.
Sam Altman teases ‘Images v2’: What to expect
Altman’s cryptic message suggests that OpenAI is developing an even more advanced version of its image-generation tool. While no official details have been shared, experts speculate that future iterations could include enhanced customization options, higher-resolution outputs, and more refined artistic control over AI-generated images.
If “Images v2” expands capabilities beyond Ghibli-style transformations, OpenAI may further revolutionize AI-powered digital art creation.
