Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar called on political parties to refrain from disruptive campaigning during his address at the 15th National Voters’ Day event on Saturday. Speaking in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and various political representatives, Kumar emphasized that such practices could lead to disillusionment among younger voters and undermine confidence in the electoral process.
Kumar also urged parties to avoid spreading fake narratives, highlighting the growing global concern over misinformation, which he described as a “dangerous trend” and a major threat to democracies. He assured political parties that the Election Commission (EC) would address their concerns and suggestions in writing to improve the electoral system.
National Voters’ Day, celebrated annually on January 25, commemorates the founding of the Election Commission of India on this day in 1950, just a day before India became a republic. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of voter participation and the integrity of the electoral process.
