BPSC exam row: Prashant Kishor sent to jail after he refuses bail condition

NEW DELHI: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor, who was arrested on Monday morning over BPSC protest, was sent to jail after he refused to sign the conditions of his bail agreement. The court had granted him bail on the condition that he would refrain from participating in any future protests and a bond of Rs 25,000. However, according to his lawyer, Kishor declined to sign the bond.
“I produced the bail petition and after argument, he was granted bail with the condition that he will not indulge in such offences (any strikes or protests) in the future and a PR bond of Rs 25,000… He (Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor) did not agree to the condition. So, the court said, it did not have the power to review the order and if he doesn’t agree to the condition, he can approach higher courts,” Kishor’s lawyer Shivanand Giri told news agency PTI.
During his detention, police transferred Kishor to an ambulance. Before the arrest, he had announced plans to file a petition in the high court on January 7 regarding the alleged irregularities in the BPSC exams.
On January 2, Kishor had started fast-unto-death to show solidarity with students demanding the cancellation of the BPSC examinations.
Following his arrest, clashes broke out between the Patna Police and supporters of Kishor.
