The 10-year-old boy, Deependra Netam, was adamant to join his father to forest when he was leaving home to collect bamboo. His father, Vnajaram, allowed him to walk along to Handawada forest in Abujhmarh and promised to take him to the famous and majestic Handawada waterfall.
His father was collecting bamboo in the forest and the boy was a hundred meters away doing the same thing, when a sloth bear suddenly appeared from behind the dense trees and attacked the man.
Vanjaram was badly hurt on his face as he struggled to free himself from the claws of the bear. The 10-year-old boy said that it was a horrific sight to watch and he couldn’t have just escaped in fear, leaving his father to die.
“I stormed towards my father, picked the bamboo sticks he had collected and hit the bear hard multiple times. It was an adult bear but the bamboo hurt it on its back, due to which, it let loose its clutches on my father and ran into the bushes,” the boy said.
He too sustained injuries in the act of saving his father. The danger wasn’t over yet as the bear could have come back more aggressively to attack. The tribal boy then raised an alarm for help after walking few kms with his injured father.
