Tension has been brewing in Biroli village of Jind district, located on the outskirts of the city, for the past two to three days due to a water drainage system issue. It is alleged that the sarpanch’s representative and the zila parishad’s representative are attempting to divert wastewater drainage through the center of the village, instead of directing it outside.
There is a pond on the other side of the village where cattle drink water and bath. The village head is reportedly trying to drain wastewater into this pond. “Water has been flowing outside the village for the past 100 years, but now a few people are trying to change the system, which could cause health issues,” said Kanwar Singh, a villager.
Two days ago, the sarpanch’s representative, accompanied by police forces, attempted to divert the drainage through the village center. However, a confrontation occurred between the police and the villagers, but the police overpowered them this time and took control by digging up a village street, according to the villagers.
The villagers have warned that another attempt to divert the drainage could lead to violent clashes. “We will not allow any wrongdoing in the village. This is the first village in Haryana attempting to divert wastewater drainage into the village instead of outside. Moreover, the sarpanch’s representative is misleading the administration and engaging in illegal activities. The drainage is being directed to an area where animals drink water, and it would be harmful to everyone if wastewater is supplied to the core of the village,” they added.
The villagers pointed out that today, the Chief Minister announced that no wastewater would be allowed to flow into ponds meant for animals, yet all regulations are being ignored. “Some people, with the help of the administration, are trying to divert the dirty water against its natural flow,” they said.
Shamser Singh, the sarpanch’s representative, stated that everything is being done according to the norms. “However, some people are trying to create an unnecessary issue due to vested interests and village politics,” he added.
