Bihar police to crack down on double-meaning Bhojpuri songs in public places
DGP Vinay Kumar also advised caution during raids, following an attack on police in Patna. Officials are urged to take strict actions against offenders, with reports on progress to be submitted via email.

PATNA: The state police headquarters (PHQ) has asked all inspector generals (IGs) and deputy inspector generals (DIGs) to crack down on double-meaning Bhojpuri songs being played at events, buses, trucks, autos, e-rickshaws and other public places. The directive was issued to protect women’s dignity and ensure they feel safe and secure in public spaces.
Bihar director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar also issued an advisory on Saturday to police personnel, urging them to exercise caution while responding to raids and search operations. The advisory followed an attack on a police team in Patna by the liquor mafia, which left 11 officers injured in the Rani Talab police station area early Saturday morning. The DGP directed officers to ensure adequate backup before taking action.
The Crime Investigation Department and weaker section division on March 7 issued a letter to IGs and DIGs across Bihar, including the railways, calling for action against obscene Bhojpuri songs.
The letter read, “It is observed that cheap, double-meaning obscene Bhojpuri songs are being broadcast openly in public places, buses/trucks, autos, rickshaws without any restriction. This has a profound negative impact on society. The broadcasting of such songs severely affects the safety and dignity of women and the mindset of children. Therefore, a special campaign and preventive measures in this regard are essential.” The directive urged police officers to register cases and take strict action against offenders. Officials have also been asked to submit reports via email on the action taken so far.
Commenting on the attack on police personnel, DGP Vinay Kumar said, “We monitor the response time. The duration of time taken to respond and reach the location after an incident is maintained. In this situation, it often happens that their number is between 100 and 200. With quick response in mind, only three to four police officers go there. Efforts are on to increase the police force.”
