BHOPAL: An octogenarian man was found hanging, while his middle aged daughter was found lying dead in another room in their home on Sunday.
The police also recovered a suicide note in which the elderly man stated about his daughter’s unsound mental condition and his old age as reason behind extreme step.
The incident occurred in the Shakti Nagar area and a case was later registered in Govindpura police station of the city.
The police said it appeared that man committed suicide by hanging self, but what led to his 40-year-old daughter’s death still remains unclear.
There was a possibility that the man poisoned or strangulated his daughter before hanging self. The exact reasons of death would get clear in the autopsy report. The police said Hari Kishan 82 was a retired BHEL official. He resided with his daughter Chitra, a homoeopath. Hari Kishan also had knowledge of homoeopathy and people would come to him for consultancy.
The police said Hari Kishan has two daughters. One resided with him while the other is married and lives with her husband in a different part of Bhopal.
The police said incident came to light when few people went to the elderly man’s home for medical consultancy and he did not open the door or responded to calls.
The police said his neighbors informed his son-in-law. From a grille of a window, the man was spotted hanging while his daughter was found lying in another room. The police said it reached the spot and recovered the bodies for autopsy. The elderly man’s wife died a few years back and his daughter Chitra, who was a homoeopath, got mentally disturbed. The police said the elderly man had to take care of himself and of his daughter. Due to old age and problems he decided to opt for the extreme step. And since he knew the mental state of his daughter, it appears he believed that she would also find it hard to survive after him, the initial probe said.
The police said that though it appears he committed suicide after taking his daughter’s life, but under what circumstances the incident took place or what exactly led to his daughter’s death, would get clear in the autopsy report.
Cops added that there were some scratch marks on his daughter’s throat and no possibility could be ruled out at this stage.
