NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday paid tribute to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru on Shaheed Diwas, highlighting that their struggle was not just against British colonial rule but also against casteism and social discrimination.
Pahul Gandhi in a post on X said, “On the martyrdom day of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, I pay my humble tribute to them.”
Emphasising the broader impact of their fight, he wrote, “Bhagat Singh’s fight was not just against the British rule but also against casteism and social discrimination. His thoughts on equality and brotherhood will continue to inspire us always.”
Gandhi also acknowledged their bravery and sacrifice, stating, “Their fearless struggle and supreme sacrifice against injustice and oppression is an example for every Indian.”
PM Modi, Amit Shah pay tribute
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, acknowledging their dedication to India’s freedom struggle.
“Today, our nation remembers the supreme sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. Their fearless pursuit of freedom and justice continues to inspire us all,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Union home minister Amit Shah also joined in remembering the martyrs, sharing a tribute on social media.
“I pay my humble tribute to Martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev on ‘Martyr’s Day’ by remembering them who made the supreme sacrifice for Mother India,” Amit Shah said.
He praised their patriotism and commitment, saying, “These great revolutionaries proved through their lives that there is no greater duty than patriotism.”
Shaheed Diwas, observed annually on March 23, marks the execution of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru in 1931 by the British government.
