Bareilly school found at fault after denying student sanitary pad

MEERUT: Education authorities have held a govt school in Bareilly responsible for denying a sanitary pad to a Class 11 student during an examination last week.
Bareilly DIOS Ajit Kumar, who issued an action taken notice to the management of the school, told TOI, “Following the inquiry, we found the school at fault for not providing the student with basic menstrual hygiene support which led to her being sent home while bleeding and traumatised.”
The girl’s family alleged that she was made to stand outside the exam hall and, despite waiting for over an hour, was not provided with a pad. She was eventually sent home, bleeding through her clothes, after the principal refused to let her enter inside for the examination.
The school’s acting principal had earlier said, “I was informed that the student asked for pads, but I was occupied with important work at the time. She was asked to wait, but she left with her friends. By the time I was free, I learned that she had already gone home.”
