PALANPUR: At least 17 people have died and several others have been injured after a massive fire broke out at a godown storing firecrackers near Deesa town in Banaskantha district on Tuesday.
The death toll is expected to rise, as many of the injured have suffered severe burns, police officials confirmed to TOI. The godown, located on Dhunva Road near Deesa town, collapsed due to the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Emergency teams, including 108 ambulance services, district administration, and firefighters from the Deesa municipality, were seen retrieving bodies from the debris. The injured are being treated at the Deesa government hospital.
