AHMEDABAD: A terrifying scene unfolded near Delhi Darwaza on Tuesday, captured in a viral video: an SUV driver, asked to stop by police, chose a path of reckless escape.
The vehicle had entered a highly congested area restricted for vehicles, a reason why the police tried to flag down the vehicle, witnesses say. However, the driver of the red Mahindra Thar accelerated, attempting to mow down an officer, who managed to escape unhurt.
The video then shows the driver careening through the streets, leaving a trail of damaged vehicles in his wake. He hit a rickshaw and other vehicles that came in his way.
Witnesses told police that the man was driving recklessly and at high speed, causing panic among pedestrians and other motorists. Police said that the man also hit with a couple of vehicles in the Lal Darwaza area.
The police are searching for the vehicle and urged anyone with information about the driver to come forward and help with the probe. This incident follows a spate of reckless driving cases reported from Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
