NEW DELHI: Alleging that Delhi’s law and order situation had worsened, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath should sit with Union home minister Amit Shah and guide him on how to deal with gangsters.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, however, said before demanding answers from the Centre on law and order situation, Kejriwal should explain actions of his own party functionaries, which, he alleged, had “tarnished” the image of Delhi.
Since the Centre controls law and order in the capital, Kejriwal said the Union home minister was directly responsible for the safety and security of Delhi and alleged that Shah prioritised political activities over public welfare.
“Yogi Ji claims he has eliminated all gangsters in Uttar Pradesh. If this is true, he should guide Amit Shah on how to eliminate gangster rule in Delhi,” Kejriwal said in a press conference.
“Amit Shah is busy buying MLAs, toppling governments, and breaking political parties in the country. Yogi Adityanath must explain to him that fixing law and order requires attention and time, and that Delhi cannot be left at the mercy of gangsters,” the AAP chief said.
Addressing a public meeting in Karol Bagh on Thursday, CM Yogi had accused AAP of settling Bangladeshi infiltrators on the land of UP govt’s irrigation department near Jamia Nagar two years ago. He claimed that he had to send bulldozers from UP to remove them and get the land barricaded.
Kejriwal, however, said CM Yogi had criticised Delhi’s law and order situation while claiming that he had eliminated gangsters in Uttar Pradesh.
AAP has made the city’s law and order an important issue for the upcoming Delhi polls. Since Delhi police report to the Union home minister, Kejriwal has accused Shah several times for allegedly doing little to improve the law and order situation in the capital.
Sachdeva said due to actions of AAP leaders and workers, the image of Delhi was “tarnished” on several occasions.
“People of Delhi seek Kejriwal’s reply on AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and his son’s goondaism, another MLA’s arrest under MCOCA, assault on a woman MP at his residence, death of people due to waterlogging last year, selling of election tickets by party functionaries, liquor scam, Sheesh Mahal, polluted Yamuna and air pollution,” Sachdeva said.
“We know Kejriwal will not answer, but we will not remain silent,” he added.
