6 of UP family get life for killing neighbour

Agra: A court in Aligarh sentenced six of a family, including five brothers, to life in jail for the murder of a 30-year-old man over “stealing” gravel in 2023. The victim was mercilessly beaten to death with sticks and the accused were found guilty under the section of murder.
On Oct 23, that year, Wahid Ahmed from Aligarh under Jawan police limits filed a case stating that the gravel in front of his house was being stolen by their neighbour Zakir. That complaint led to a violent response and Zakir, along with four of his brothers and brother-in-law assaulted Wahid’s parents and his sibling with sticks. Wahid’s brother, Altaf Ahmed, 30, later died of head injuries in hospital.
A case was subsequently registered under IPC sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting), 323 (intentionally hurt), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 149 (unlawful assembly), among others, and all accused were sent to jail. A charge sheet was thereafter filed. The case was being heard in the court of district judge Sanjiv Kumar.
District govt counsel Jitendra Chaudhary said, “After hearing both sides and examining witnesses and evidence, the court in Aligarh delivered its verdict on Tuesday. It also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them. Failing to pay, the convicts will have to spend an additional six months in jail.”
