Akbar Road signboard defaced over alleged vandalism of Maharana Pratap’s statue in Delhi's Kashmere Gate ISBT

NEW DELHI: Three men defaced the signboard of ‘Akbar Road’ on Wednesday, claiming it was in retaliation to the alleged vandalism of Maharana Pratap’s statue at Delhi’s Kashmere Gate ISBT, news agency ANI reported on Thursday.

One of the men, identified as Amit Rathore, justified the act, stating, “India will not tolerate the insult of Maharana Pratap. The police administration and the Delhi government are trying to suppress the incident that happened at ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Those who are guilty should be arrested, immediate action should be taken against them.”
Another protester, Vijay, said they have been targeting signboards bearing the names of historical figures they consider invaders. “We are continuously removing signboards of invaders like Akbar, Babur, and Humayun, and we are trying to make the government open its eyes and take a decision. The question is, why are only we doing this? Where are the other people of the society?” he told ANI.
The individuals involved in defacing the signboard appear to be linked to the Hindu Rashtra Navnirman Sena. Amit Rathore, who was seen in a video of the incident, claims on his Instagram page to be the national president and founder of the group. Further details from the police are awaited, ANI reported.
