AJMER: Wedding procession of a scheduled caste person proceeded under heavy police protection through Lavera village in Shrinagar block of Ajmer district, after the family claimed that upper caste locals were opposed his horse-mounted procession. Approximately 400 police personnel were deployed in the village.
There was a police complaint that the barat procession to village resident Narayan Khorwal’s house, a Raiger, for his daughter Aruna’s marriage to Lokesh, son of Mohan Bakoliya from Shrinagar village, on Jan 21 would be objected to by the upper caste as groom would ride a horse.
A police officials confirmed that security arrangements were made following the bride’s father’s request. “Nothing happened and security was simply for safety measures; there was no discrimination or any such incident reported,” said a senior official.
Narayan, the bride’s father, said, “There was fear in my community and, therefore, we requested police for security. Nowadays, youth are educated, and they oppose such discrimination.”
