MUMBAI: Making a phone call, sending a message, surfing the internet or merely scrolling on social media, all of it is now possible on domestic flights operated by Air India.
On Wednesday , the Tata Group owned airline became the first carrier to offer wifi connectivity onboard domestic flights.
“From January 1, 2025, passengers can access Wi-Fi services aboard Air India’s A350, B787-9 and selected A321neo aircraft, with complimentary access during the initial phase,” said Air India in a press statement.
The airline said it has implemented Wi-Fi internet connectivity across its domestic and international on flights operated with the said aircraft.
“This initiative positions Air India as the pioneer in providing in-flight Wi-Fi services on domestic routes, allowing passengers to maintain internet connectivity, browse websites, use social media platforms, conduct business activities and communicate with contacts whilst airborne,” the release said.
“Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it is about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency. Whatever be one’s purpose, we are confident that our guests will appreciate having the option of connecting to the web and enjoy the new Air India experience on board these aircraft,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Air India.
The service supports multiple Wi-Fi enabled devices simultaneously, including laptops, tablets and smartphones with iOS or Android systems, when flying above 10,000 feet.
Following successful trials on international routes to New York, London, Paris and Singapore using Airbus A350, selected Airbus A321 neo and Boeing B787-9 aircraft, this service is now available domestically. The complimentary service will gradually extend to additional aircraft in the fleet.
In-flight Wi-Fi connections depend on factors such as satellite connectivity, overall bandwidth usage, routes, and government restrictions.
