All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Sunday announced a nationwide agitation against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which is expected to be brought to Parliament for passage during this week. The board has planned large sit-ins in Bihar’s Patna on March 26 and in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada on March 29 as part of the first phase of the protest – BJP allies JD(U) and TDP are the governing parties in these states, respectively.
Board spokesperson and convener of the action committee against the Waqf bill, SQR Ilyas, said the purpose of these protests is “to send a clear message to BJP’s alliance partners: either withdraw support for the bill or risk losing our support”.
