Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed concerns over job loss due to artificial intelligence (AI) at the AI Action Summit in Paris. He said that that AI most-feared disruption in ‘loss of jobs’ but history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology. He further added that the nature of jobs change with time and new types of jobs are created.
PM Modi highlighted the importance of equitable AI distribution, particularly to the Global South, while warning about inherent AI biases and addressing employment concerns.
“We must pull together our resources and talent and develop open source systems that enhance trust and transparency and develop quality datasets free from biases in order to benefit the world. AI must be about people-centric applications. We must address concerns related to cyber security, disinformation, and deep fakes,” he said during the summit.
“AI can help transform millions of lives across sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture, and much more. AI can also help create a world in which the journey to sustainable development goals become easier and faster,” the PM added.
He concluded by discussing AI sustainability, stating its high energy requirements. He highlighted the International Solar Alliance, formed by India and France, as a means to ensure sufficient green energy for future technological advancement.
