NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday took a dig at Union home minister Amit Shah with a morphed video of a popular Bollywood movie ‘Ghajini’.
In the clip, Delhi’s ruling party attacked Shah by highlighting the AAP’s poll promises and work done by it in the national capital.
The video was part of AAP’s “phir laayenge Kejriwal” (will again bring Kejriwal) campaign for the upcoming Delhi assembly polls.
Earlier on Monday, BJP leader Sambit Patra took a swipe at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal over the renovation of Delhi CM’s official residence, which the party has repeatedly referred to as “Sheesh Mahal,” and said that the tender cost was higher than the estimated one making it a “scam in the first step itself”.
The “Sheesh Mahal” controversy centres around allegations that Arvind Kejriwal spent crores of rupees renovating his official residence during the Covid-19 pandemic, a period when many public development projects were stalled.
Talking about the “scam,” Patra said, “The CAG report says that on March 17, 2020, Delhi’s PWD gave a proposal of remodelling the 6 Flag Staff Road. The single-storey building will have to demolished and an additional new floor will be constructed. The proposal was accepted within a day. The estimated cost was Rs 7.61 crore, however, the tender released by the government mentioned the amount as Rs 8.62 crore. There was a scam in the first step itself.”
The Delhi assembly election is picking up heat, with the AAP, BJP and the Congress locked in a fierce triangular contest.
The AAP and Congress party, which fought together in the Delhi Lok Sabha polls, parted their ways and decided to go solo against the BJP in the assembly polls.
The high-octane triangular political battle for the upcoming polls is expected to reshape the political fortunes of three major parties and several leaders.
Though BJP has named candidates only for 29 seats and Congress too has declared contestants for 48 seats. The ruling AAP has declared list of all its candidates.
Several top AAP functionaries, including party chief Arvind Kejriwal, incumbent Delhi CM Atishi and ex-deputy CM Manish Sisodia, have their job cut out with the two opposition parties – BJP and Congress – naming heavyweight candidates against them.
The most interesting of the contests will be played out in the New Delhi assembly constituency, known for the bungalows of top politicians, bureaucrats, judges and industrialists in Lutyens’ Delhi and where a large number of govt servants stay. Former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is pitted against the sons of two former chief ministers.
Congress has fielded Sheila Dikshit’s son, Sandeep against Kejriwal, while BJP has reposed its faith in Sahib Singh Verma’s young and aggressive son, Parvesh.
Amid growing political tirade over the polls, the Election Commission is expected to declare the Delhi assembly election on Tuesday at 2 pm.
A new House must be formed through elections before February 23, when the current 70-member assembly’s tenure concludes.
