UP woman ‘kills teen daughter for talking to boyfriend on phone’

MEERUT: A 45-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly strangling her 15-year-old daughter after catching her talking to her boyfriend on the phone in Bijrol village under Baraut police station area in Baghpat, police said on Sunday.
The accused, Warisa, allegedly caught her daughter, Nazia, speaking to her boyfriend during Sehri preparations around 3am on Saturday.
“In a fit of rage, she strangled Nazia, who collapsed on the bed. Believing her to be alive, Warisa continued with her household chores. Nearly four hours later, when she tried to wake her, she realised she was dead,” Baraut SHO Manoj Kumar said.
Warisa’s husband, a toy trader, was in Sultanpur at the time. She was living in the village with her nine children. Nazia had dropped out of school due to financial difficulties and stayed at home.
Villagers reported the matter to the police when they saw Warisa attempting to bury her daughter. “Police reached the spot and arrested the woman.
An FIR under BNS section 103(1) (murder) was registered against her on a complaint filed by a police sub-inspector. The autopsy confirmed death due to strangulation. An investigation is underway,” Kumar said.
