The Los Angeles Lakers have been vocal about their roster needs this season, with Anthony Davis recently emphasizing the importance of adding a center before the trade deadline. However, a potential blockbuster trade proposal could address not only that need but also strengthen the team’s leadership and offensive capabilities. According to Fadeaway World’s Eddie Bitar, the Lakers might pull off a huge deal with the San Antonio Spurs that would bring in both a seasoned Hall of Fame point guard and a versatile center.
The trade would see the Los Angeles Lakers acquire Chris Paul, the 12-time All-Star point guard, and Zach Collins, a 6’11” center. The Spurs would get Jalen Hood-Schifino, Gabe Vincent, and Rui Hachimura in exchange. With just one trade to handle two pressing needs, this move could prove to be crucial for the Lakers.
Chris Paul, even at nearly 40 years old, continues to demonstrate why he is regarded as one of the best playmakers in NBA history. Bitar notes, “Adding Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers gives the team exactly what they need: a seasoned leader and one of the best playmakers in NBA history.” Paul’s presence would not only provide leadership but also allow LeBron James to play off the ball more, conserving energy for crucial moments late in games. His playmaking ability would elevate Anthony Davis, offering him easier scoring opportunities and helping the Lakers climb out of their current 17th-place ranking in scoring.

Alongside Paul, Zach Collins would add much-needed versatility to the Los Angeles Lakers’ frontcourt. Collins is known for his rim protection and could be an ideal backup or even a potential frontcourt partner for Davis. Bitar points out, “With Zach Collins, the Lakers gain a two-way presence they’ve been missing, especially after losing Jarred Vanderbilt for most of the season.”
While the trade looks promising for the Lakers, it raises questions about the Spurs’ side of things. Despite being in the midst of a rebuild, the Spurs are still in playoff contention. Moving Chris Paul would likely require receiving more than Hachimura, who is a valuable asset for the Los Angeles Lakers. Paul’s mentorship of young players like Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle is also crucial to San Antonio’s culture.

There are rumors that the Lakers are reluctant to part with Hachimura, but they may be willing to make an exception if the trade package of Paul and Zach Collins is on the table. This proposed deal could be the solution the Lakers have been searching for as they gear up for the second half of the season.
