UDAIPUR/JAIPUR: Rajasthan’s Udaipur and Madhya Pradesh’s Indore have become India’s first two cities to receive international accreditation as ‘Wetland Cities’ under Ramsar Convention. Globally, only 31 cities hold the prestigious title.
Announcing the milestone on Friday night on X, Union minister for environment, forest and climate change Bhupendra Yadav said, “Double joy! A testimony to PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision of marching ahead, aligning economy and ecology.”
On Saturday, Modi wrote on X, “Congratulations to Indore and Udaipur! This recognition reflects our strong commitment to sustainable development and nurturing harmony between nature and urban growth. May this feat inspire everyone to keep working towards creating greener, cleaner, and more eco-friendly urban spaces across our nation.”
Ramsar Convention, signed in 1971 in Iran’s Ramsar, is an international treaty dedicated to the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands.
