NEW DELHI: BJP on Saturday claimed that thousands of forms with personal details of women who registered for AAP’s Mahila Samman Yojana were found dumped with a junk dealer. AAP, however, accused BJP of being rattled by “overwhelming, historical support” for the scheme and resorting to “false” stories to tarnish the image of its chief, Arvind Kejriwal.
“BJP, without a CM candidate or a vision for Delhi, is extremely rattled to see the love and trust for Arvind Kejriwal Ji despite all their attempts to tarnish his image and are, therefore, resorting to such false stories,” AAP said in a statement.
At a press conference, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva showed bundles of papers and claimed that over 30,000 forms filled by women in the Timarpur assembly constituency were handed over to BJP candidate Surya Prakash Khatri by a scrap dealer.
Delhi govt had announced a monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 to eligible women in the capital under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana in its 2024-25 budget. In the run-up to the assembly polls, AAP national convener Kejriwal raised the amount to Rs 2,100 and launched a drive for women to register themselves for the scheme. There was a big rush to do this. While BJP claimed that AAP was collecting personal details, including bank account and Aadhaar numbers from women, AAP said it was instructing them to give a missed call on their phones to register.
Sachdeva alleged that the forms filled out in Nov-Dec 2024 were found lying in scrap shops. “Personal data of women across all 70 assembly constituencies was collected fraudulently under the guise of this scheme, putting these women at risk of cybercrime,” he maintained, adding that the forms recovered from the scrap dealer had details of Aadhaar cards, mobile numbers, PAN cards, voter IDs and original photographs of women. He displayed one such form. BJP claimed that lakhs of forms were filled up by women across the city and were later dumped by AAP.
“If Kejriwal has even a shred of morality left, he would immediately resign from the post of AAP convenor,” said Sachdeva, describing the scheme as a “sham”. “These will be handed over to the police commissioner and investigative agencies so that thorough inquiries can be conducted, and all accused involved in this crime be punished,” he said.
The BJP candidate, Khatri, said he would make all the efforts to ensure justice for the women of Timarpur.
