Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, made $38m in stock trades ahead of Donald Trump's inauguration

Paul Pelosi, spouse of former House speaker Nancy Pelosi, executed significant stock transactions totalling $38 million before Donald Trump’s inauguration, including investments in an emerging artificial intelligence company that has experienced a nearly 50% value increase recently.
The venture capitalist, based in San Francisco, divested $24 million in Apple shares and $5 million in Nvidia shares on New Year’s Eve, as documented in government filings. His wife is required by law to disclose these transactions.
Paul Pelosi, who recovered from a violent hammer assault at their San Francisco residence over two years ago, has initiated a position with Tempus AI, a Chicago-based healthcare technology firm specialising in AI-driven clinical and molecular data analysis.
Documentation shows he acquired $100,000 in Tempus AI call options on January 14. The company’s shares, initially trading at $32, have risen substantially to approximately $50.50, representing a 60% increase since their June public offering at $37 per share.
Christopher Josephs, who manages the “Nancy Pelosi Stock Tracker” on X since January 2021, developed an application enabling traders to replicate Paul Pelosi’s investment portfolio. His Autopilot investment platform, operational since January 2023, has processed over $325 million in trades from users following Pelosi’s strategy.
According to “Unusual Whales”, the Pelosis’ investments have yielded substantial returns, with their portfolio value increasing by over 70% in the year ending December 30.
Recent transactions include $500,000 in call options for Alphabet, Amazon and Nvidia. Paul Pelosi exercised 500 Nvidia call options at $12 strike price and 140 Palo Alto Networks options at $100 strike price. He also purchased 50 Vistra call options at $50 strike price, expiring January 16, 2026.
Vistra’s shares have increased by over 33% recently, trading at approximately £188 per share. A spokesperson said, “Speaker Pelosi does not own any stocks, and she has no prior knowledge or subsequent involvement in any transactions.”
Nancy Pelosi’s estimated net worth exceeds $240 million, primarily from her husband’s investments in technology companies and real estate. Their trading activities have sparked discussions about potential conflicts of interest and regulatory reform.
Initially opposing restrictions on congressional stock trading, Nancy Pelosi faced criticism that led to reform efforts. In September, Trump called for her prosecution regarding her husband’s Visa trades preceding a Justice Department lawsuit.
Following hip replacement surgery after a fall in Luxembourg last month, the 84-year-old representative has resumed her congressional duties. She maintains significant influence in Democratic Party affairs, notably regarding Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
Before departing office, Biden endorsed prohibiting Congress members and their spouses from stock trading, marking a change from his previous stance. Reports suggest a deterioration in relations between the Bidens and Pelosis following his exit from the presidential race.
