Pete Alonso, the MLB star and currently a free agent, has been in the news as fans and experts are busy speculating which team he would be joining for the 2025 season of the MLB. Recently, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, Pete Alonso rejected the New York Mets’ three year deal that was estimated to be $68 million to $70 million. This news has not gone down well with the fans of the New York Mets.
Fans Are Divided As Pete Alonso Keeps Rejecting Teams For The 2025 MLB Season
Fans are pretty confused about Pete’s intentions for the upcoming season of the MLB. While some fans are hopeful of Pete returning to his former team, the New York Mets, some fans have slammed Pete for rejecting a “good deal”.
A fan hoping Pete would soon be signing a deal with the New York Mets, took to X and wrote, “It’s a perfect day for the New York Mets to work a deal out with Pete Alonso…”
Another fan believes that at this point the New York Mets should “move on” from Pete Alonso. The fan wrote, “The Mets should forget Pete Alonso and let him go wherever he feel he can do better and make even more money. New York and the Mets will do just fine without him and concentrate of the development of their young, up-and-coming STARS. Thanks, Pete, but NO THANKS.”
Pete Alonso has stayed with the New York Mets for a pretty long time after joining the team back in 2019. As per reports, the $70 million deal was not the only deal that the New York Mets have offered him; when Pete’s one year deal worth $20.5 million with the Mets expired after the 2024 season, the team had offered him a qualifying offer but the star player turned them down.
Pete Alonso Rejected A $50 Million Deal Offered By Another Team
Coincidentally, another team had also approached the star player with an expensive deal but the deal did not work out. According to famous sportscaster Lee Hamilton, the Los Angeles Angels had offered him a $50 million deal for two seasons. It is not known if the Los Angeles Angels took back their offer or if Pete rejected the deal.
But Lee Hamilton believes, the deal was rejected by Pete and his sports agency, the Boras Corporation, as they are “seeking a higher deal” and were looking for a deal worth $31.1 million per season.
In the last few days, Pete has been brutally slammed by his fans, experts, MLB insiders and fans of the New York Mets. Many believe he is making a wrong decision by rejecting “good deals”. However, neither Pete nor his sports agency, the Boras Corporation, have confirmed any of these speculations yet.
