NEW DELHI: The Congress party on Thursday released a new campaign song titled “Har jarurat hogi puri, Dilli mein Congress hai jaruri” (Every need will be fulfilled, Congress is necessary in Delhi) for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
The 2 minute 48 second music video was unveiled at a press conference. The song serves as the party’s “Delhi Congress Anthem” and outlines their vision and promises for the national capital if elected to power. It takes direct aim at the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP, criticising their tenures and promoting the Congress as the better alternative.
The lyrics highlight the Congress’ previous track record of governing Delhi before the AAP came to power in 2015. It accuses the AAP of failing to deliver on major promises and allowing civic issues like pollution in the Yamuna river and poor drinking water quality to persist.
Congress also promoted its own welfare schemes in the song, such as providing free electricity up to 300 units for households and introducing the “Pyari Didi Yojana” scheme to give Rs 2,500 per month to women from low-income families.
The release of the Congress anthem comes amid a flurry of campaign songs from the major parties ahead of the February 8 election day. The BJP recently unveiled “Jo Ram Ko Lekar Aaye Unka Raj Hoga Dilli Mein” (Those who brought Ram will rule Delhi) to mark the Ram Mandir consecration anniversary.
The AAP’s “Phir Layenge Kejriwal” (We will bring Kejriwal again) portrays the party chief Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi’s son and highlights his government’s work in health, education and welfare schemes.
Both the Congress and BJP will attempt to dislodge the incumbent AAP, which won a landslide victory in 2015, from power.
