A 14-month-old boy drowned in a bucket of water outside his home at Melachery in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpet district earlier this week. The toddler was identified as M Augustine. He was the younger son of Manikandan, an electrician, and Joyce. The couple had wed in 2019 and also have a son aged four.
On Monday afternoon, Manikandan was at work while Joyce was with the kids at home. She was sitting outside and feeding Augustine. Afterwards, she went inside the house. In the few seconds of her absence, Augustine fell into the bucket kept under a public tap near the house. Joyce returned to find Augustine in the bucket and took him out. She alerted neighbours and family members, who rushed the toddler to Chengalpet Govt Hospital, where he died Tuesday night. Palur Police registered a case.
