Marco Rubio was sworn in as the 72ndUS secretary of state, following a unanimous 99-0 confirmation vote in the US Senate. The confirmation took place during the first session of the 119th Congress on Monday, with Vice President JD Vance administering the oath of office. This marks Vance’s first time swearing in a federal official.
“Congratulations to Marco Rubio on his unanimous confirmation as Secretary of State—the first in President Trump’s Cabinet. America is back and entering a golden age,” the White House wrote on X.
Rubio, a long-time senator from Florida, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Born in Miami to Cuban immigrant parents, Rubio’s upbringing in a family that balanced hard work and faith shaped his dedication to public service. His father worked as a banquet bartender, while his mother held multiple jobs, including as a factory worker and hotel maid. Rubio has often credited their efforts in shaping his understanding of the American Dream.

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States in a ceremony at the US Capitol, administered by US Chief Justice John Roberts. Alongside Trump’s swearing-in, JD Vance also took the oath as the 50th US vice president.
Trump, in his inaugural speech, declared that America had entered a “golden age” and referred to the day as “Liberation Day” for the country. He addressed rising inflation and reiterated his energy-focused slogan, “drill baby drill,” pledging to prioritize oil drilling to address the nation’s energy needs.
