UP STF guns down gangster Arshad, 3 aides in late-night encounter in Shamli

LUCKNOW: In a late-night encounter on Tuesday, the Special Task Force (STF) killed Arshad, a member of the Mustafa Kagga gang, and his accomplices—Manjeet, Satish, and an unidentified associate. The operation occurred in Shamli district’s Jhinjhina police station area.
STF Inspector Sunil Kumar, who led the operation, was critically injured in the shootout and is undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon.
Additional director general (ADG) Law and Order, Amitabh Yash, stated that Arshad was a wanted criminal with over a dozen cases of robbery, dacoity, and murder, including a robbery case in Saharanpur’s Behat. A Rs 1 lakh reward was announced for his capture.
Additional SP in STF, Brijesh Kumar, said that Arshad had a long criminal history, including involvement in heinous crimes across Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Kumar added that Arshad’s reign of crime begins from 2011, when a heinous murder was reported in Rampur Maniharan, Saharanpur. Two years later, in 2013, the district witnessed another violent crime—a robbery and dacoity in Behat, Saharanpur. The same year, violations of the Gangster Act were recorded in Kotwali, Shamli.
The trail of criminal activities resurfaced in 2024, with offenses under the Arms Act again reported in Behat, Saharanpur.

Who Was Mustafa Kagga?

Mustafa alias Kagga, a notorious criminal from Saharanpur, led a reign of terror until his death in a police encounter in 2011. With 22 cases of robbery and murder, Kagga killed a constable in Jhijhana before being neutralized. Following his death, Mukim Kala took over the gang’s leadership.
