Earlier, Dr Jaishankar participated in the Inauguration Day Prayer Service at St John’s Church, a traditional event held before the presidential inauguration.
The incoming President Donald Trump, accompanied by his wife Melania Trump, attended the prayer service at St John’s Episcopal Church. They were joined by vice president-elect JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance. Following the service, outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden formally welcomed the Trumps at the North Portico of the White House.
The official inauguration ceremony will commence with vice president-elect JD Vance taking the oath of office, followed by Donald Trump’s swearing-in as President. After taking the oath, President Trump will deliver his inaugural address.
On Sunday, President Trump had announced his intention to revoke several executive orders implemented by the Biden administration, which he described as “destructive and radical.” Speaking at a candlelight dinner at the National Building Museum, he assured attendees that these orders would be declared “null and void” within hours of his swearing-in.
