VIJAYAWADA: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that India has emerged as a global leader in disaster management through its revolutionary approach under Prime Minister Narendra Modi by adopting a ‘zero-casualty goal’ during calamities.
After inaugurating the south campus of National Institute of Disaster Management and National Disaster Response Force 10th battalion buildings at Kondapavuluru near in Vijayawada, Shah said while earlier the approach to disaster was relief-centric, this has now undergone 360-degree change, becoming ‘rescue-centric’ to save people.
“India has taken a lead in the entire world in disaster-resilient infrastructure by setting up CDRI (Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure) under PM Modi’s leadership,” he said, adding that 48 countries have become members of CDRI.
Attacking the erstwhile Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy regime, he said the governance in Andhra Pradesh from 2019 to 2024 was a “man-made disaster” and assured NDA govt’s commitment to rescue the state from the crisis.
At a meeting later, Shah spoke of Centre’s support to Andhra, emphasising that Rs 3 lakh crore has been extended to the state in six months. Shah stressed on the timely completion of Amaravati revamping. He said CM N Chandrababu Naidu has full support of PM Modi and both leaders will together streamline development and administration in the state.
