JIND: Patwaris and Kanungos in Haryana are upset after the release of the list of corrupt Patwaris by the state government. A state-level meeting was held in Jind on Sunday to make a further decision.In the meeting patwaris and kanungo decided that , they will work wearing black bands next three days across the state.
Moreover, a resolution was passed in which they decided that they a memorandum will be submitted in the name of the Chief Minister on Monday through the deputy commissioners of all 22 districts of Haryana seeking his intervention into the matter. They also mentioned that legal aspects are being worked on.
They alleged that two Patwaris who have been dead for two years are also included in the list of corrupt Patwaris.
During the meeting, patwaris reached across the state, have condemned the list of Patwaris accused of corruption, released by the Haryana government, calling it unconstitutional, inhuman, and a form of mental harassment. In a meeting chaired by Jaiveer Chahal, the state president of the Haryana Patwari and Kanungo Association, Patwaris decided that they would work with black armbands for the next three days. No Patwari will work in another area other than their own jurisdiction from now onwards, he added.
Jaiveer Chahal stated that while it is unknown which agency prepared the report, it is clear that the report has many flaws. The names of Devendra Patwari from Gurgaon and Omprakash Patwari from Kaithal are included in the list, even though both have passed away. He pointed out that the tenure mentioned in the report is also incorrect, proving that the report is not accurate.
He said that while the government’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption is welcome and they do not support any corrupt Patwari, it does not mean that the government can subject Patwaris to unconstitutional, mental, and human harassment. He added that legal aspects of the matter are being considered, and consultations are being held with lawyers. Any legal advice received will guide their future strategy.
Welcoming the Chief Minister’s decision to investigate the leak of the letter, he said that anyone found guilty should be punished. He further mentioned that many Patwari offices are nonexistent, and Patwaris are managing their offices on their own. Now, these Patwaris will take all their records to the Tehsil office and continue their work there, whether space is available or not.
The state president said that communication between the government and employees happens regularly. If such a report was created, the concerned Patwaris would have responded to it. However, the government’s decision is causing significant difficulties for the Patwaris.
A meeting of the Haryana Patwari and Kanungo Association lasted more than six hours at the Patwari office if Jind district condemned the move. About 150 Patwaris from across the state participated in the meeting, where they made their future strategy and considered all aspects.
