NEW DELHI: A court in Dhaka has issued an arrest warrant against Shakib Al Hasan, a prominent Bangladeshi all-rounder and former Member of Parliament, over two bounced bank cheques.
The warrant was issued by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman, who ordered the police to submit a report on the execution of the order on March 24.
The case stems from Shakib’s failure to appear in court as ordered earlier, in relation to a case filed by the International Finance Investment and Commerce (IFIC) Bank.

The bank had previously issued a legal notice over the bounced cheques and subsequently filed a case on December 24 against Shakib and three other officials of his company, Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm.
Shakib, who is currently residing in the United States, has not returned to Bangladesh due to concerns over his safety following the civil unrest that led to the deposition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year.
He was elected as a Member of Parliament on the Awami League ticket during the January 7, 2024 elections.
In addition to Shakib, the court also issued an arrest warrant against Gazi Shahagir Hossain, the managing director of the agro farm, for failing to respond to the summons. Two other farm officials surrendered before the court and were granted bail after a hearing.
Shakib Al Hasan, widely regarded as Bangladesh’s greatest cricketer, played his last Test match against India in Kanpur late last year.
Currently, he is banned from bowling in all forms of cricket due to a suspect action. The agro farm, established by Shakib in 2016 in southwestern Satkhira, has reportedly been inactive since 2021.
