U19 Women's T20 World Cup: India begin title defence with nine-wicket win over West Indies

NEW DELHI: The Indian women’s U-19 team kickstarted their World Cup title defence with a dominant nine-wicket victory over the West Indies in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
India bowlers, led by Parunika Sisodia, dismantled the clueless West Indies batting order, bundling them out for a paltry 44 runs in the Group A match at Bayuemas Oval.

Left-arm spinners Sisodia (3/7) and Aayushi Shukla (2/6), along with pacer VJ Joshitha (2/6), ran through the West Indies batting lineup after India opted to bowl.

Kenika Cassar top-scored for the West Indies with a 29-ball 15, while opener Asabi Callender contributed 12 runs.
India chased down the target of 45 runs in just 4.2 overs, reaching 47 for 1.
Opener Trisha G was the only wicket to fall, dismissed for 4 off the second ball by Jahzara Claxton.
Keeper-batter G Kamalini (16* off 13) and Sanika Chalke (18* off 11) guided India to an easy win.
India will face hosts Malaysia next on Tuesday, with Sri Lanka being the other team in Group A.
The top three teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super Six stage.
The teams from Group A and Group D will form one Super Six group, while the top three teams from Group B and Group C will form the other group.
Teams will carry forward their points and net run rates from the group stage and will play the two sides from the other group who finished in different positions.
The top two teams from each Super Six group will progress to the semi-finals, with the final set to be played on February 2 in Kuala Lumpur.
